Encore is a ministry that challenges you to engage the culture. We believe there is no such thing as retirement from kingdom work. The church cannot ignore the wisdom that comes from years of experience, the time available to invest in ministry, the resources that are no longer needed in raising a family, and the passion to continue to influence lives for Christ.
Encore is not one homogeneous group. Our lifestyles, ability to serve, desires, concerns, and needs vary extensively. Under the Encore umbrella are individual groups that address our differences. Below you’ll find a sampling of what is available to you as we learn ways to strengthen inter-generational relationships, create events and programs to meet real second half needs, learn how to assist our peers in thinking globally, and build up the body of believers at Hawthorne Gospel Church. We are not done yet. Perhaps the best is yet to come.
Prime Time is a fellowship of encouragement through Bible study and activities for adults from the age of 55 and above. We are thankful for the opportunity of meeting together, getting to know each other better, and thereby encouraging one another in our daily walk with the Lord. Our monthly Bible studies are usually held on the last Saturday night of the month (October, November, January, February, March, April) at 7:30 p.m. in The Chapel. These studies are an opportunity for further study and growth in the Word of God. After the study, we share dessert together and fellowship with each other. On the third Sunday of October, November, January, February, March and April we enjoy lunch together after 12 noon at the Grand Buffet, Route 17S, Ramsey, NJ
Purpose: To include golden-aged adults in promoting the gospel of Jesus Christ through service projects for the various ministries of the church, including the Hawthorne Christian Academy and our missionaries. To encourage and build up one another in Christ. We meet on the second Tuesday of each month (except the months of July & August) from 10:30 AM to 1:15 PM in The Chapel. Each person brings a bag lunch. Dessert and beverage are provided by the committee. Great fellowship is enjoyed as work is completed. A variety of guest speakers and programs bring the meeting to a close after lunch. We also plan occasional one-day outings to points of interest in the area including lunch out. Advanced registration normally is required for these day trips. Friends are welcome anytime.
